An Ape Novel

“An Ape Novel”, which is a parody of science-fiction, is a long story that brings together three unlikely elements; humor, science-fiction, and Sufism. Events in Vienna, with its new title XB21, in 2075, inspires us to think on humanity’s future once more.

This novella takes place in 2075 and is written by Ayşe Şasa, one of the leading screenwriters of Turkish cinema as well as a leading individual. Ayşe Şasa, with her full understanding of the Eastern and the Western thought systems, invites us into her dystopia.

The things that take place in 2075 also take us into a dark comedy in a sense. An ideology of apes rules the world. People are worthy as much as they become ape-like. Humans, who are still human and have just emigrated from the East to XB21, are considered second class citizen and are being targeted by the police and government forces. A small group of humans, who have not lost touch with their spirituality, struggles to survive in this chaotic atmosphere.

How can tradition possibly find a way to peace and tranquility in an ultra-modern environment that suffers from a loss of meaning and violence? What kind of depth it is that empowers humanity under the toughest circumstances?
