Nun Tales
An innovative and cutting edge demonstration of what a set of short stories can be. A series of short stories which, though you do not realize it while you are reading them, are all interconnected. One of the characters is himself an author. And the author in the story starts speaking with the real author, Nazan Bekiroğlu. Nazan asks for the permission of the author within the story to write the ending a certain way but the author refuses and he writes his own ending. Further towards the end, all of the different characters come together when they realize that their stories have been written and they demand that the author (in the story) tell them why the bad things that happend to them had to happen. When they all demand an answer from him, the author in the story then demands an answer from the real author. From these sorts of situations you can get a sense of the spirit of playfulness that characterizes Bekiroğlu’s writing style.
