Literature and Society

Kemal Karpat writes with laser-like precision and crystal clarity on subjects which otherwise can become convoluted and muddled. Here he submits the theory that the true Turkish novel has not yet been written. A bold statement which he supports with mountains of information, culminating with the idea that because the Turkish middle class is not yet flourishing, there can not yet be a true and essential body of modern Turkish literature.
